    Summary

    Intracellular elastin particles were identified in generalized granuloma annulare and related conditions. These findings offer insights into the pathogenesis of granuloma annulare and associated elastotic disorders.

    Main Results:

    • Intracellular elastin particles were observed in eleven of thirteen generalized granuloma annulare cases.
    • These bodies were also present in deep granuloma annulare and elastosis perforans serpiginosa.
    • A small percentage of localized granuloma annulare cases showed these particles.
    • Necrobiosis lipoidica did not exhibit intracellular elastin particles.

    Conclusions:

    • Intracellular elastin particles are a notable feature in generalized granuloma annulare.
    • The presence of these particles may indicate a shared pathomechanism in certain granulomatous and elastotic skin diseases.
    • Further research is warranted to elucidate the role of elastin in granuloma annulare.
