This study validates the Experience in Exercising the Right to Health Care (EERHC) scale for international migrants in Chile. The validated 45-item, four-dimension scale effectively measures primary health care utilization.
Area of Science:
- Public Health
- Health Services Research
- Migrant Health
Background:
- The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes the right to healthcare.
- International migrants face unique challenges in accessing healthcare.
- Assessing healthcare access requires validated measurement tools.
Purpose of the Study:
- To analyze the internal structure of the Experience in Exercising the Right to Health Care (EERHC) scale.
- To evaluate the psychometric properties of the EERHC scale for international migrants.
- To establish a reliable instrument for measuring primary health care utilization.
Main Methods:
- Instrumental study with 563 participants.
- Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA).
- Assessment of reliability (Cronbach's α, McDonald's ω) and internal consistency (item-dimension correlations).
Main Results:
- The EERHC scale demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties (Cronbach's α and McDonald's ω > 0.9).
- Item-dimension correlations were r ≥ 0.3.
- The final model showed good fit indices (RMSEA = 0.07, CFI = 0.97, TLI = 0.95, SRMR = 0.03).
Conclusions:
- The EERHC scale possesses a robust internal structure with 45 items across four dimensions.
- The validated scale is suitable for measuring primary health care service utilization among international migrants.
- Findings support the use of the EERHC scale within the WHO framework for the right to health care.
