Summary

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare cancer. Older age independently predicts poorer survival, while second primary malignancies and radiation therapy are linked to better outcomes in BPDCN patients.

Background:

  • Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and poorly understood hematopoietic malignancy.
  • Understanding its clinical characteristics and prognostic factors is crucial for patient management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the clinical characteristics of primary BPDCN.
  • To identify prognostic factors influencing survival in primary BPDCN patients.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database for patient data (2001-2019).
  • Employed Kaplan-Meier method for survival analysis.
  • Applied univariate and multivariate accelerated failure time (AFT) regression for prognostic factor evaluation.

  • A total of 340 primary BPDCN patients were analyzed.
  • Older age was independently associated with worse survival.
  • Second primary malignancies (SPMs) and radiation therapy were independently associated with extended survival.
