Background:

Evidence-based practice is crucial for high-quality patient care and service improvement in the NHS.
Research is a fundamental pillar of enhanced and advanced clinical practice within podiatric surgery.
The Faculty of Podiatric Surgery aligned with UK health research strategies to develop national research priorities.

Purpose of the Study:

To engage members in formulating and agreeing on national research priorities for podiatric surgery.
To inform a future research strategy aligned with UK health research goals.
To identify key themes, topics, and research questions for UK podiatric surgery.

Main Methods:

A national research scoping survey was conducted to identify key themes and questions.
A live consensus vote was held at the 2022 national Faculty of Podiatric Surgery Conference.
The project involved engaging members in formulating and agreeing on research priorities.

Main Results:

Top research topics identified: surgical treatment (forefoot and midfoot), patient-reported outcome measures, post-operative management, and service delivery.
Top research questions focus on quality of life improvements, population health benefits, at-risk foot care, surgical fixation efficacy, and outcome data utilization.
These priorities will guide UK podiatric surgery research for the next 3-5 years.

Conclusions:

The study successfully established national research priorities for UK podiatric surgery.
These priorities aim to drive evidence-based practice and improve patient outcomes.
The findings will shape the future research agenda in podiatric surgery.
