Background:

  • The dominant spotting (W) locus in mice is identical to the c-kit proto-oncogene.
  • c-kit is highly expressed in hematopoietic organs and the brain.
  • W mutant mice exhibit deficiencies in erythrocytes, mast cells, melanocytes, and germ cells, with the cause of germ cell deficiency unclear.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of the W mutation on the proliferative potential of cells in various organs.
  • To clarify the role of the W (c-kit) gene in germ cell development.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized aggregation chimeras between W mutant and wild-type (+/+) mouse embryos.
  • Analyzed the proportions of wild-type components in different tissues of chimeric mice.
