    Purpose of the Study:

    • To quantitatively compare capillary morphometry in awake versus pentobarbital-anesthetized rat brains.
    • To investigate the effect of barbiturate anesthesia on intraregional differences in perfused capillary volume and surface area.
    • To determine if anesthesia abolishes regional variations in brain capillary perfusion.

    • Intravenous injection of FITC-labeled Dextran in awake or anesthetized rats.

    • Anesthesia effectively eliminates regional heterogeneity in brain capillary perfusion.
    • These findings highlight the significant impact of anesthesia on the distribution of blood flow within the brain.
