[Stromal reaction in carcinoma of the lungs]

A standard evaluation of the cellular infiltration in tumour stroma (stromal reaction) was performed in 114 cases of squamous carcinoma of the lung and related to the survival of patients. Features of prognostic importance seemed to be the prevailing eosinophilic leucocyte infiltration (noticed only in patients surviving 5 years) as well as the quantity of reaction. Rarely dominating plasmacytes represented a favourable feature in contrast to an unfavourable lack of macrophages.
