    Salivary IgA (SlgA) levels are often lower in children than adults, with defects present from birth. Full maturation of SlgA occurs after age six, potentially revising its role in immune protection.

    Background:

    • Salivary IgA (SlgA) is a crucial immunoglobulin in mucosal immunity.
    • Understanding SlgA development in children is vital for assessing immune competence.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To determine normal salivary IgA levels in children aged 8 months to 6 years.
    • To identify the prevalence of SlgA defects in this pediatric population.
    • To compare pediatric SlgA levels with adult populations.

    Main Methods:

    • Quantitative analysis of salivary IgA (SlgA) levels.
    • Study cohort: 1,539 healthy children (8 months - 6 years).
    • Comparison with established adult SlgA reference ranges.
