Birth Control Methods01:22

Birth Control Methods

Vasectomy is a surgical form of male sterilization that involves severing and sealing the vasa deferentia, preventing sperm from mixing with semen during ejaculation. Because a vasectomy does not impact the testes' ability to produce testosterone, hormone levels, libido, and sexual function generally remain unchanged. While vasectomy is highly effective in preventing pregnancy, with a success rate near 99.85%, rare cases of recanalization (spontaneous reconnection) can occur. Although...

Hormonal Regulation01:33

Hormonal Regulation

33.4K
The renin-aldosterone system is an endocrine system which guides the renal absorption of water and electrolytes, thus managing blood pressure and osmoregulation. Activation of the system begins in the kidneys with a small cluster of cells adjacent to the afferent and efferent blood vessels of the renal corpuscle. As the nephrons are filtering blood, juxtaglomerular cells monitor blood pressure. If they detect a decrease in pressure, they release the hormone renin into the bloodstream.

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching III: Evaluation and Documentation

1.8K
Evaluation of the teaching process enables the nurse to determine if the patient's learning needs were met and if training was effective. If the expected outcomes are not met, the care plan is revised, and additional education or reinforcement is provided. Nurses can ask questions after the session or obtain feedback to assess the patient's understanding of the topic.
Nurses can use several methods to evaluate patient outcomes. For example, oral questions can assess cognitive learning,...

Infertility in Females01:28

Infertility in Females

353
Female infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after a year of regular, unprotected intercourse and affects about 10–15% of couples worldwide. The primary cause of female infertility is ovulatory disorders, which hinder the release of eggs. These disorders can be classified as hypothalamic amenorrhea, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), premature ovarian failure, and hyperprolactinemic anovulation disorders.
Endometriosis, a condition characterized by abnormal growth of...

Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Health
  • Health Education
  • Digital Health

Background:

  • Contraceptive knowledge is crucial for effective family planning and reproductive health outcomes.
  • Web-based resources offer a scalable platform for disseminating health information to diverse populations.
  • Assessing the impact of digital tools on health knowledge is essential for their successful implementation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the change in contraceptive knowledge among users after interacting with a web-based educational resource.
  • To assess the usability of the online contraception education tool.
  • To identify factors associated with improved contraceptive knowledge.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 789 reproductive-aged female respondents recruited via Amazon Mechanical Turk.
  • Contraceptive knowledge was assessed using 32 questions before and after resource use, with comparisons made using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test.
  • Logistic regression identified characteristics associated with knowledge improvement, and the System Usability Scale (SUS) was used to evaluate ease of use.

Main Results:

  • The median number of correct contraceptive knowledge responses increased from 17/32 to 21/32 (p < 0.001) after resource use, with 70.5% of participants showing improvement.
  • Never-married individuals and those preferring shared or clinician-involved decision-making were more likely to increase their knowledge.
  • The median System Usability Scale score was 70/100, indicating good usability.

Conclusions:

  • The web-based contraception education resource demonstrated effectiveness in improving contraceptive knowledge among the surveyed online population.
  • The resource is user-friendly, suggesting its potential to supplement clinical contraceptive counseling.
  • Digital health tools can be valuable for enhancing reproductive health literacy.
