Surveys02:16

Surveys

14.8K
Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Generally, the survey itself can be completed in a short time, and the ease of administering a survey makes it easy to collect data from a large number of people.

Assessment of the Gastrointestinal System II: Health Perception Pattern01:29

Assessment of the Gastrointestinal System II: Health Perception Pattern

147
Assessing the gastrointestinal (GI) system is a complex process that begins with collecting subjective data. This data, collected through patient interviews, provides crucial insights into the patient's health history, perception patterns, and lifestyle habits, all contributing significantly to GI health.
Health Perception Patterns
Health perception patterns offer valuable insights into a patient's lifestyle habits and how they may impact their GI health. These patterns include:

SBAR II: Application of SBAR01:14

SBAR II: Application of SBAR

4.5K
SBAR is an effective communication tool used by healthcare professionals to communicate patient information accurately. SBAR stands for Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation. For a better understanding, an example is given below.
SBAR Report from a Nurse to a Health Care Provider
S: "Hello, Dr. Smith. This is Jane, RN, from the Med Surg unit. I am calling to tell you about Ms. White in Room 210, who is experiencing increased pain and redness at her incision site. Her recent...

Observational Studies01:11

Observational Studies

8.8K
Observational studies are a type of analytical study where researchers observe events without any interventions. In other words, the researcher does not influence the response variable or the experiment's outcome.
There are three types of observational studies – Prospective, retrospective, and cross-sectional.
Prospective Study
Prospective studies, also known as longitudinal or cohort studies, are carried out by collecting future data from groups sharing similar characteristics. One...

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

3.4K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Sputum Studies II: Culture and Sensitivity01:20

Sputum Studies II: Culture and Sensitivity

430
Description
Sputum culture and sensitivity is a medical procedure used to diagnose bacterial infections in the respiratory tract and select the most appropriate antibiotics for treatment. This process involves analyzing sputum samples of thick and opaque secretions produced in the lungs and airways. These samples are collected from patients and then sent to the laboratory for analysis.
The test can identify various pathogens responsible for respiratory infections, including Streptococcus,...

Summary

The Questionnaire for the Screening of Symptoms in aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SOS-SAH) may help patients prepare for appointments and structure discussions. While not improving patient experience scores, it aids in screening for symptoms after aSAH.

Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Clinical Medicine
  • Patient-Reported Outcomes

Background:

  • Mild disabilities after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) often involve overlooked invisible symptoms.
  • The Questionnaire for the Screening of Symptoms in aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SOS-SAH) is a disease-specific tool designed to aid symptom screening.
  • This study explores the clinical impact and implementation barriers of the SOS-SAH.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the perceived impact of using the SOS-SAH in daily clinical practice for post-aSAH patients.
  • To explore potential barriers to the further implementation of the SOS-SAH.

Main Methods:

  • A multi-method approach combining quantitative (patient experience survey, regression analysis) and qualitative (interviews) components.
  • Patient experience surveys compared usual care with SOS-SAH intervention groups.
  • Thematic analysis of interviews with 16 patients and 6 healthcare professionals.

Main Results:

  • No significant differences in patient experience survey scores between groups.
  • The number of discussed symptoms during consultations did not increase post-implementation.
  • Interviews indicated SOS-SAH improves patient preparation, consultation structure, efficiency, and communication.

Conclusions:

  • The SOS-SAH shows potential for aiding symptom screening in aSAH patients, despite no quantitative improvements in patient experience.
  • The tool may positively influence patient preparation and consultation structure.
  • Both patients and healthcare professionals recommended continued use of the SOS-SAH.
