This study investigated the effectiveness of a Scientific Yoga Module delivered via telehealth for improving the quality of life in patients with hypothyroidism. Telehealth yoga significantly improved quality of life and managed other symptoms compared to standard care.
Area of Science:
- Integrative Medicine
- Telehealth Interventions
- Thyroid Disorders
Background:
- Hypothyroidism is a growing public health concern impacting patient quality of life.
- Conventional treatments for hypothyroidism may have long-term side effects.
- This study addresses the need for effective, accessible management strategies.
Purpose of the Study:
- To assess the effectiveness of a novel "Scientific Yoga Module" delivered via telehealth for improving quality of life in hypothyroidism patients.
- To evaluate the impact of tele-yoga on various symptoms and health markers associated with hypothyroidism.
- To compare the outcomes of tele-yoga intervention with standard care.
Main Methods:
- A single-blinded, two-arm, parallel-group randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving 120 primary hypothyroid participants (aged 18-60).
- Participants were randomized into a yoga intervention group (n=60) or a waitlist control group (n=60).
- A six-month tele-yoga intervention was administered, with data collected pre-interim and post-intervention.
Main Results:
- The Scientific Yoga Module, delivered through tele-mode, demonstrated significant improvements in health-related quality of life (HRQOL) as measured by the SF-36 scale.
- Secondary outcomes including thyroid profile, Body Mass Index (BMI), Blood Pressure (BP), Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Gita Inventory of personality scale (GIP) were positively impacted.
- The yoga intervention group showed greater improvements compared to the waitlist control group across key health indicators.
Conclusions:
- This tele-yoga RCT is the first to analyze the effectiveness of a "Scientific Yoga Module" for hypothyroidism delivered via tele-mode.
- The findings suggest that telehealth-delivered yoga is a viable and effective approach for managing hypothyroidism and improving patient well-being.
- This innovative approach offers a promising complementary therapy for hypothyroidism management, enhancing accessibility and patient outcomes.

Synthesis and Regulation of Thyroid Hormones
Upon reaching the thyroid gland, TSH stimulates the follicular cells' active uptake of iodide ions from the blood. The ions diffuse to the apical surface of the cells and are oxidized to iodine. The...
Exercise Stress Test
Exercise stress testing, commonly known as a treadmill test, is a noninvasive procedure used to evaluate cardiovascular function and diagnose heart conditions.
Definition
An exercise stress test measures the heart's response to exertion using a treadmill or stationary bicycle. Chest electrodes record the heart's electrical activity through an ECG, and blood pressure is monitored regularly.
Purposes
Chest Physiotherapy
Purpose
CPT is primarily used for patients with excessive bronchial secretions who have difficulty clearing...

Steps in the Modeling Process
Attention is the first necessary component for observational learning. It involves focusing on what the model is doing and saying. For example, if you decide to take a drawing class to enhance your skills, you need to pay close attention to the instructor's words and hand movements. The characteristics of the model significantly...
