Nursing Evaluation

The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Background:

The Nursing Work Index (NWI) was established in the 1980s to assess the nursing work environment (NWE).
Descendant instruments of the NWI are still utilized for NWE measurement.
The relevance of these instruments to contemporary practice requires evaluation.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify instruments originating from the NWI.
To analyze the utilization and revisions of these NWE instruments.
To evaluate their capacity in reflecting the current nursing work environment.

Main Methods:

A comprehensive scoping literature review was conducted.
Forty relevant articles were selected for analysis.

Main Results:

NWI-derived instruments have been translated into multiple languages.
These instruments have been administered to hundreds of thousands of nurses worldwide.
The global study of the nursing work environment remains a significant area of research.

Conclusions:

The assessment of the nursing work environment is a globally extensive field.
Future research should investigate the factorial structure of adapted NWE instruments.
Ensuring the relevance of instrument items to contemporary nursing practice is crucial.
