Background:

Short-term experiences in global health (STEGH) offer nursing students opportunities to develop global health competencies.
Challenges exist in ensuring the quality and sustainability of STEGH programs.
Developing global health competencies is crucial for future practice with diverse populations.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe an academic partnership between a baccalaureate nursing program and an international nongovernmental organization (INGO).
To explain how this partnership informed the development of STEGH for nursing students.
To highlight the benefits for students and the host community, and lessons learned.

Main Methods:

Establishment of an academic-INGO partnership.
Development of STEGH curriculum informed by community needs.
Evaluation of student learning and community impact.

Main Results:

Academic-INGO partnerships facilitate the creation of sustainable and rigorous STEGHs.
