Microscopic colitis is a risk factor for low bone density: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Microscopic colitis (MC) significantly increases the risk of low bone density (LBD). Patients with MC have a twofold higher chance of developing LBD, indicating a need for bone density screening.

- The certainty of evidence was rated as very low.

- MC is linked to a doubled risk of low bone density.
- Recommend screening MC patients for bone mineral density at diagnosis.
- Further prospective studies are necessary to confirm findings.
