Hematology profile analysis in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients

  • Severe COVID-19 patients exhibited significantly higher White Blood Cells (WBC), Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW), neutrophil, monocyte counts, and Neutrophil Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) compared to mild-moderate cases (p<0.05).
  • Severe cases also showed significantly lower Red Blood Cells (RBC), hemoglobin, hematocrit, lymphocyte, and thrombocyte counts (p<0.05).
  • Hematological profiles did not significantly differ based on comorbidity and showed no significant correlation with Ct value, except for eosinophil count (r=0.161; p=0.018).

Conclusions:

  • Hematological profiles can serve as predictive indicators for COVID-19 severity.
  • Eosinophil count may be a potential predictor of infectivity in COVID-19 patients.
