    Background:

    • Intraocular pressure (IOP) management is critical during ophthalmic surgery.
    • Spontaneously breathing anesthesia techniques can lead to undesirable systemic arterial pressure fluctuations.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of a normocapnic general anesthetic technique with controlled ventilation in reducing IOP during lens extraction.
    • To assess the impact of this technique on systemic arterial pressure.

    • Applanation tonometry was used to measure IOP in 23 patients undergoing lens extraction.
    • A normocapnic general anesthetic technique with intermittent positive pressure ventilation (IPPV) was employed.
