Summary

Early surgical intervention for midshaft clavicle fractures (MCFs) shows better functional outcomes and lower complication rates compared to delayed surgery. Shared decision-making is recommended for individualized patient treatment plans.

Background:

Displaced midshaft clavicle fractures (MCFs) present a debate regarding optimal surgical timing.
Early surgical intervention versus delayed management is evaluated for functional outcomes and complication rates.

Conclusions:

Early surgical management of displaced MCFs generally leads to superior functional outcomes and fewer complications.
Despite better outcomes with early surgery, moderate results in the delayed group suggest a role for shared decision-making.
Individualized treatment recommendations for MCFs should consider patient-specific factors.
