    Summary

    Regional lymph node involvement occurs in 33% of surgically treated renal angiomyolipoma cases. This nodal involvement suggests multicentricity, not metastatic disease, in patients with renal tumors.

    Background:

    • Renal angiomyolipoma is a rare benign kidney tumor.
    • Surgical management is a common treatment for symptomatic or large renal angiomyolipomas.
    • The behavior of lymph node involvement in renal angiomyolipoma is not well-defined.

    Observation:

    • A retrospective review identified 6 patients who underwent surgical treatment for renal angiomyolipoma.
    • Regional lymph node involvement was observed in 2 of these 6 patients (33% incidence).

    Findings:

    • The study observed a 33% incidence of regional lymph node involvement in surgically treated renal angiomyolipoma.
    • Clinical behavior indicated that nodal involvement represents multicentricity rather than metastatic spread.
