    Summary

    There is no significant difference in the pupil dilation effect between aqueous and viscous 2.5% phenylephrine hydrochloride solutions. Both formulations showed similar mydriatic outcomes when used alone or with other ophthalmic agents.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the mydriatic effect of 2.5% aqueous versus 2.5% viscous phenylephrine hydrochloride solutions.
    • To evaluate the impact of pretreatment with anesthetic and combination therapy on mydriasis.

    Main Methods:

    • Four studies were conducted comparing aqueous and viscous phenylephrine.
    • Mydriasis was measured under room light and darkened conditions.
    • Studies included pretreatment with proparacaine hydrochloride and combination with tropicamide.
