Abstract:
The phagocytosis specificity in vitreal hematoma has been studied in experimental hemophthalmos caused by the administration of autologous blood (0.1 to 1.2 ml) into the vitreous body of 74 rabbits (144 eyes), with the following analysis of the results in 1 h-3.5 years. The specificity is associated with the structure of hematoma in the vitreous body and peculiarities of the surrounding medium. This leads to delayed, weak, and monomorphic phagocytosis with generalized phagocytosis "in situ" prevailing. The role of phagocytosis not only in hemolysis but also in thrombolysis nad fibrinolysis has been established.
