Background:

Psoriasis affects a substantial number of women of childbearing age.
Family planning is a critical consideration for this demographic.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the family planning concerns of women of childbearing age with psoriasis.
To identify how psoriasis and its treatment influence reproductive desires and decisions.

Main Methods:

An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, multicenter study was conducted.
Data were collected from 153 women aged 18-45 with plaque psoriasis using a family planning questionnaire.

Main Results:

One in three women reported that psoriasis affected their desire to become pregnant or led to delayed pregnancy.
Common concerns included potential disease worsening upon treatment changes and risks to the baby.
Nearly half of participants had not received family planning counseling from their physicians.
Women on biologic therapy showed better disease control and quality of life.

Conclusions:

Psoriasis presents significant family planning challenges for women, potentially impacting their reproductive choices.
There is a clear need for enhanced dermatologist training in family planning for women with psoriasis.
Better informed healthcare providers can improve counseling and support for these patients.
