    Summary

    Leprosy patients consuming over 2 kg of analgesics, primarily for nerve pain, did not show renal papillary necrosis. However, excessive analgesic use may contribute to interstitial nephritis in leprosy.

    Background:

    • Leprosy, a chronic infectious disease, often presents with complications like neuritic pain.
    • Analgesic use is common among leprosy patients to manage pain.
    • The potential renal toxicity of long-term analgesic use in this population is not fully understood.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the consumption patterns of analgesics in leprosy patients.
    • To assess the prevalence of renal papillary necrosis in leprosy patients with high analgesic intake.
    • To explore the relationship between excessive analgesic use and renal health in leprosy.

    Main Methods:

    • Survey of 235 leprosy subjects on analgesic consumption.
    • Analysis of analgesic intake exceeding 2 kg in 46 subjects (19.5%).
