Summary

Following stroke, severe corticospinal tract (CST) damage necessitates reliance on other brain pathways for upper limb motor function recovery. Residual tracts are crucial for better motor outcomes when the CST is compromised.

  • To investigate the relevance of alternative white matter tracts for upper limb motor function in chronic stroke survivors with varying degrees of CST damage.

  • Utilized the ENIGMA Stroke Recovery dataset (n=166) of chronic stroke patients with upper limb impairment.

  • Residual white matter tracts play a compensatory role in achieving better upper limb outcomes after severe CST injury.
