Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the frequency and types of panoramic technical errors in pediatric patients with special needs versus healthy controls.
  • To assess the impact of special needs on panoramic radiograph quality.
  • To identify factors influencing error occurrence.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 100 pediatric panoramic radiographs (50 special needs, 50 controls).
  • Four blinded observers evaluated for palatoglossal air space, movement, positioning errors, and foreign bodies.
  • Image quality was subjectively rated on an ordinal scale.
  • Statistical analysis included inter-observer correlation and demographic factor correlations.

Main Results:

  • Movement and positioning errors were most frequent, followed by palatoglossal air space and foreign bodies.
  • Special needs group images had significantly more errors and lower quality ratings.
  • Younger patients in both groups showed increased movement and positioning errors.

Conclusions:
