Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Radiology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Pacinian corpuscles are mechanoreceptors in the skin, sensing vibration and pressure.
  • Pacinian corpuscle hyperplasia is a rare condition causing palm or sole indurations, sometimes linked to neurofibromatosis.

Observation:

  • A 29-year-old patient presented with painful hand nodules.
  • Imaging studies revealed findings typical of Pacinian corpuscle hyperplasia.

Findings:

  • High-resolution ultrasound and MRI effectively characterized the lesions.
  • Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of Pacinian corpuscle hyperplasia.

Implications:

  • Pacinian corpuscle hyperplasia should be considered in the differential diagnosis of hand nodules.
  • Advanced imaging techniques aid in the diagnosis of this rare condition.
