- MRI revealed similar lesions in the proximal tibia and distal femur.
- Histopathological examination of core needle biopsies showed fibrocollageous tissue, bone fragments, and lymphocytes.
Findings:
- The lesions were ultimately diagnosed as subchondral cysts, not a giant cell tumor as initially suspected.
- Conservative treatment with analgesics and physiotherapy resulted in good pain relief and functional improvement.
- The patient was counseled on the potential need for future total knee replacement.
Implications:
- Accurate differentiation of subchondral cysts from other osteolytic lesions is crucial for appropriate management of knee osteoarthritis.
