    Glomerular epithelial vacuolation is a key finding in children with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a form of nephrotic syndrome. This cellular change is linked to the development and progression of chronic kidney disease in these patients.

    Background:

    • Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disorder characterized by heavy protein loss in urine.
    • Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and minimal-change nephrotic syndrome are distinct causes of nephrotic syndrome in children.
    • Glomerular epithelial cell alterations are implicated in kidney disease progression.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate glomerular epithelial cell changes in children with FSGS and minimal-change nephrotic syndrome using electron microscopy.
    • To determine the association between glomerular epithelial vacuolation and disease progression, specifically chronic renal failure.

    • Electron microscopy was employed to examine glomeruli from 34 children with FSGS and 34 with minimal-change nephrotic syndrome.
