Summary

A case of ocular dirofilariasis, caused by Dirofilaria repens, presented as a pre-septal abscess and eyelid swelling. Surgical removal of the live worm led to complete resolution of symptoms.

Background:

Ocular dirofilariasis is a rare parasitic infection caused by filarial nematodes.
Dirofilaria repens is a common cause of subcutaneous dirofilariasis in Europe and Asia, but ocular involvement is infrequent.
