Hepatocyte ABCA1 deficiency is associated with reduced HDL sphingolipids

Hepatic ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) significantly impacts plasma sphingolipids, including sphingomyelins and sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P). Loss of ABCA1 function in mice and Tangier patients drastically reduces these vital lipid levels.
