    Summary

    Auditory Brainstem Evoked Potentials (ABEP) reveal subtle nervous system damage in children exposed to lead. This study suggests ABEP can detect early, subclinical effects of lead exposure.

    Background:

    • Lead exposure is a significant public health concern, particularly for children.
    • Subclinical neurological effects of lead exposure can be difficult to detect.
    • Auditory Brainstem Evoked Potentials (ABEP) are a non-invasive electrophysiological measure of auditory pathway function.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the effects of past lead exposure on the auditory nervous system in children and adults.
    • To determine if ABEP can serve as a sensitive indicator of subclinical lead toxicity.
