Integrated Healthcare System01:20

Integrated Healthcare System

1.7K
An integrated healthcare system (IHS) is a set of organizations that provides for or arranges to provide coordinated and continuous service to a defined population. The IHS takes responsibility for that particular population's health status and outcome, both clinically and fiscally. An integrated healthcare system is a well-organized, well-coordinated, and collaborative network. The integrated delivery system is a network that connects different healthcare providers to deliver organized,...

Ethical Issues01:27

Ethical Issues

1.0K
Nurses are essential in patient care, upholding the ethical principles of their profession and effectively navigating ethical dilemmas. Neglecting ethical issues can lead to inadequate patient care, compromised therapeutic relationships, and moral distress among healthcare workers.

Patient-centered Care01:13

Patient-centered Care

2.1K
Patient-centered care involves delivering care beyond inpatient hospitalization. Reflective practice can enhance a patient-centered approach. Reflective practice is a process of reasoning that considers all aspects of the present situation, including practicalities, learning from personal practice, and consideration of patient needs. Patients appreciate care decisions made while considering their input. Involving the patient in their care provides the patient with a sense of contribution rather...

Issues And Trends In Healthcare Delivery System

5.7K
The issues and trends in healthcare delivery are constantly changing. The COVID-19 pandemic is one recent issue that wreaked havoc on healthcare systems, causing a shortage of healthcare workers, high demand for medicines and supplies, and increased medical expenditure due to a lack of insurance. Other issues include rising healthcare costs and care fragmentation.
Cost Containment
Payment for healthcare services has historically promoted adoption of costly and often unnecessary or inefficient...

Methods of Documentation VI: Case Management Model

598
The case management model is a multidisciplinary approach that involves healthcare professionals from diverse disciplines, such as physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, and pharmacists, working collaboratively to address the various needs of patients. Each healthcare professional brings unique expertise and perspectives, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the patient's condition and tailoring treatment plans accordingly.
For example, a patient with a chronic...

    Summary

Interprofessional collaboration in integrated practice units (IPUs) is crucial for value-based health care (VBHC). Diverse professional groups in team meetings positively impact relational coordination (RC), enhancing communication and relationships within IPUs.

    Area of Science:

    • Healthcare Management
    • Health Services Research
    • Organizational Behavior

    Background:

    • Value-based health care (VBHC) emphasizes interprofessional collaboration within integrated practice units (IPUs) for comprehensive patient care.
    • The extent and drivers of interprofessional collaboration in IPUs remain under-researched, despite being a cornerstone of VBHC.
    • Understanding factors that foster collaboration is essential for optimizing VBHC models.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate relational coordination (RC) within VBHC settings.
    • To identify antecedents of interprofessional collaboration in integrated practice units (IPUs).

    Main Methods:

    • A questionnaire-based study was employed to assess interprofessional collaboration in IPUs.
    • Gittell's Relational Coordination Survey measured collaboration by examining relational dynamics.
    • Team practices (team meetings, boundary spanning) and organizational conditions (task interdependence, time constraints) were evaluated.

    Main Results:

    • A higher number of professional groups participating in team meetings was positively associated with relational coordination (RC) in IPUs.
    • Boundary spanning behavior, task interdependence, and time constraints did not show a significant association with RC.
    • Team meeting diversity emerged as a key factor influencing collaboration.

    Conclusions:

    • Diversity in interprofessional team meetings is vital for fostering high-quality communication and relationships within IPUs.
    • Enhancing relational coordination in IPUs requires a focus on the composition of team meetings.
    • These findings have implications for improving collaborative practices in VBHC settings.
