    Summary

    A rare case of infant death from endogenous strangulation caused by a fibrous sternomastoid tumor is reported. Histological findings suggest birth trauma may influence the development of this rare fibromatosis.

    • Postmortem examination revealed severe congestion of cerebral veins and conjunctiva with ecchymoses.

    • Histological examination identified a fibrous sternomastoid tumor as the cause of strangulation.
    • The observed congestion and ecchymoses were consistent with external cervical compression.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights a rare but fatal complication of sternomastoid tumors in infants.
    • Further research is warranted to explore the potential link between birth trauma and the etiology of infantile fibromatosis.
