This study introduces a new metadata standard for human microneurography recordings, improving data handling and laboratory workflows. An open-source tool facilitates adoption for FAIR data principles in neuroscience research.
Area of Science:
- Neuroscience
- Data Science
- Biomedical Engineering
Background:
- Metadata standards are crucial for FAIR data principles in medical research.
- Existing standards are insufficient for microneurographic recordings of human peripheral sensory nerve fibers.
- Developing new laboratory workflows requires robust data management solutions.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose a novel standard for structuring and storing microneurography metadata.
- To enhance laboratory workflows for microneurographic data.
- To facilitate the adoption of FAIR data principles in microneurography research.
Main Methods:
- Development of a metadata standard based on the open metadata記述フォーマット (odML) and odML-tables.
- Creation of an extension for the odML-tables GUI to enable user-friendly database search functionality.
- Establishment of an open-source repository to encourage community adoption.
Main Results:
- A new standard for microneurography metadata has been proposed and implemented.
- An enhanced GUI provides user-friendly search capabilities for microneurographic data.
- An open-source repository is available to support the integration of this standard.
Conclusions:
- The proposed odML-based metadata standard addresses the lack of established standards in human microneurography.
- The developed tools enhance laboratory workflows and data searchability.
- Widespread adoption of this standard will promote FAIR data principles and collaborative research in microneurography.
