Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of worker fatigue on subsequent sickness absence in a Korean working population.
  • To quantify the association between different levels of fatigue and the likelihood of sickness absence.

Main Methods:

  • A longitudinal study involving 12,250 workers over two years (2014-2015).
  • Fatigue levels were assessed using the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) in the first year.
  • Sickness absence data for the subsequent 12 months were collected and analyzed using logistic regression, controlling for confounding factors.

Main Results:

  • Workers with moderate fatigue had 3.35 times higher odds of sickness absence, while those with high fatigue had 6.87 times higher odds.
  • The association between fatigue and sickness absence was stronger in men than in women.

Conclusions:
