    Summary

This study presents the first documented cases of complete shoulder blade duplication in children with multiple musculoskeletal malformations. Surgical intervention resulted in good functional and cosmetic outcomes.

    Area of Science:

    • Orthopedics
    • Developmental biology
    • Medical imaging

    Background:

    • Congenital anomalies of the shoulder girdle are rare.
    • Complete duplication of the scapula (shoulder blade) has not been previously reported in medical literature.
    • Understanding the embryological basis of such anomalies is crucial for diagnosis and management.

    Observation:

    • Two pediatric cases with multiple malformations of the locomotor and postural apparatus were identified.
    • Both patients presented with a complete duplication of the right scapula.
    • The duplicated scapulae were surgically mobilized and fused.

    Findings:

    • The surgical intervention for scapular duplication yielded positive results.
    • Late examination revealed good functional recovery of the shoulder joint.
    • Cosmetic outcomes were also satisfactory following the surgical procedures.

    Implications:

    • This report expands the spectrum of known congenital scapular anomalies.
    • It highlights the potential for surgical correction of complete scapular duplication.
    • Further research into the genetic and developmental factors underlying this anomaly is warranted.
