Summary

Severe anemia in an adolescent caused by abnormal uterine bleeding was successfully treated with blood transfusion and hormone therapy. This case highlights effective management for heavy menstrual bleeding and associated anemia.

Findings:

  • The patient received a red blood cell transfusion (10 mL/kg) for immediate anemia correction.
  • Hormonal therapy with oral oestradiol was initiated for bleeding control.
  • Discharge included oral oestradiol and iron supplementation for continued management.

Implications:

  • Combined hormonal therapy (oestradiol and progestin) was later administered, leading to a good recovery.
  • This case underscores the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in managing adolescent AUH and severe anemia.
  • Effective treatment strategies can prevent recurrence and improve patient outcomes.
