Flexible choledochonephroscopy offers a simple, well-tolerated outpatient alternative for retrograde pyelograms. This minimally invasive technique provides a useful option compared to traditional rigid cystoscopy.

    Area of Science:

    • Urology
    • Medical Imaging

    Background:

    • Retrograde pyelogram is an important diagnostic imaging procedure.
    • Classical rigid cystoscopic techniques can be invasive and uncomfortable.

    Observation:

    • A retrograde pyelogram was performed on two male patients.
    • The procedure utilized a flexible choledochonephroscope and a 5F whistle-tip ureteral catheter.

    Findings:

    • The procedure was conducted on an outpatient basis under topical anesthesia.
    • Patient tolerance was reported as good, indicating minimal discomfort.
    • The flexible choledochonephroscope technique proved simple to perform.

    Implications:

    • This flexible technique presents a viable and less invasive alternative to rigid cystoscopy for retrograde pyelograms.
