    Summary

    Illusory motion perception can occur after optokinetic stimulation due to nystagmus suppression. This study shows that the brain uses smooth pursuit eye movements to counteract post-stimulus eye movements, causing stationary objects to appear to move.

    Background:

    • Optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) is an involuntary eye movement reflex.
    • OKN often persists briefly after the stimulus stops (OKN after nystagmus).
