[Rheoencephalography and piezopulsography in the acute period of ischemic stroke]

The authors have examined 46 patients with ischemic stroke associated with hemorrhage and 161 patients with nonhemorrhagic stroke. Three types of cerebral flow changes have been revealed. Type I is suggestive of the cerebral ischemic syndrome; Type II, of cerebral hypervolemia with predisposition toward constriction of the main arteries of the head, a considerable growth in cerebral peripheral vascular resistance and venous plethora. Type III develops in case of lethal outcome (cerebral vasoparesis and peripheral reactions of the pressor type). Type I is more common in nonhemorrhagic stroke, Types II and III in hemorrhagic one.
