    Background:

    • Evoked potentials (EP) are electroencephalographic signals time-locked to stimuli.
    • Existing EP recordings include auditory, visual, and somatosensory modalities.
    • The otolithic macula's electrophysiological activity has not been previously recorded via EP.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To report the first apparent recording of otolithic evoked potentials (EP).
    • To characterize the waveform of these novel otolithic EP.
    • To explore the potential of otolithic EP for understanding macular electrophysiology.

    Main Methods:

    • Thirty-nine students participated in the study.
    • Participants were positioned on a tilt table.
    • Head drop conditions were used to stimulate the otolithic maculas.

    Main Results:

    • The study successfully recorded a novel waveform, presumed to be otolithic EP.
    • The obtained waveform did not resemble auditory, visual, somatosensory, or semicircular EP.
    • This suggests a unique electrophysiological signature for otolithic stimulation.

    Conclusions:

    • Otolithic EP have been apparently recorded for the first time.
    • These findings open new avenues for investigating the electrophysiology of the otolithic macula.
    • Otolithic EP may provide insights into the VIII nerve and central processing related to balance.
