Background:

Understanding current radiology practice dynamics is crucial for strategic planning.
Employment and retirement trends significantly impact workforce stability and service delivery.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze current radiology practice types and subspecialty needs.
To investigate employment and retirement trends within the radiology field.

Main Methods:

Survey distributed to American College of Radiology (ACR) members, nonmembers, and Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA) members.
Predominantly structured, closed-ended questions were used to gather data on practice characteristics.
Responses were deduplicated by group practice and weighted for analysis.

Main Results:

In 2021, 62% of practices hired radiologists, with academic practices hiring the most (average 3.5).
Body and breast imaging specialists were most frequently hired (17% each), with similar hiring priorities anticipated for 2022.
82% of practices permit teleradiology, and 16% of radiologists plan to seek new employment, with early-career professionals showing the highest intent.

Conclusions:

Radiologist recruitment remains robust, indicating a healthy job market.
Insights into practice characteristics can guide leaders in optimizing group size and resource allocation.
