Summary

Multiple tooth extractions in a patient with congenital factor XI deficiency (CFXI) were successfully managed. Fresh frozen plasma (FFP) administration and local hemostasis effectively prevented postoperative bleeding in this rare oral surgery case.

Background:

Congenital factor XI deficiency (CFXI) is a rare bleeding disorder affecting approximately 1 in 1 million individuals.
Surgical procedures in the oral region for CFXI patients are infrequently reported due to the condition's rarity.

Observation:

This study details a case of a 43-year-old male with CFXI undergoing multiple tooth extractions.
The patient received fresh frozen plasma (FFP) preoperatively and postoperatively, with extractions divided into two sessions (maxillary and mandibular).

Findings:

Successful multiple tooth extractions were performed without abnormal postoperative bleeding.
The management strategy involved preoperative and continued FFP transfusion alongside enhanced local hemostasis.

Implications:

This case demonstrates a viable treatment outline for managing oral surgical procedures in CFXI patients.
Effective use of FFP and local hemostasis can significantly reduce bleeding risks in CFXI patients undergoing dental surgery.
