Summary

Accurate mediastinal staging is vital for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment. Endobronchial ultrasound-transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) is effective, with newer techniques showing promise for specific conditions.

Background:

Accurate pathological staging is critical for determining prognosis and treatment in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Recent therapeutic advancements in NSCLC underscore the increased importance of precise mediastinal staging.
Established guidelines exist for identifying NSCLC patients requiring invasive mediastinal staging.

Conclusions:

Mediastinal staging and adequate tissue acquisition are crucial for NSCLC patient management.
While EBUS-TBNA is effective for NSCLC diagnosis, further research is needed to define the primary role of forceps and cryobiopsy in mediastinal disease diagnosis and staging.
