Area of Science:

  • Vascular Surgery
  • Orthopedic Oncology
  • Dermatopathology

Background:

  • Angioleiomyoma is a rare benign soft tissue tumor originating from smooth muscle.
  • It constitutes less than 1% of all upper limb soft tissue tumors.
  • These tumors can present as slow-growing, atraumatic lesions.

Observation:

  • A 54-year-old male presented with a progressively enlarging lesion on the palmar side of the ring and little finger base.
  • The tumor was intimately associated with the radial digital artery.
  • Complete en-bloc excision required transection of the radial digital artery.

Findings:

  • The digital artery was successfully repaired following tumor excision.
  • At 10-month follow-up, the patient exhibited full hand function.
  • No cold intolerance or neurological deficits were observed in the digital nerve distribution.

Implications:

  • Careful resection with digital artery transection and repair is a viable treatment option for digital artery angioleiomyoma.
  • This surgical approach can preserve hand function and prevent neurovascular complications.
  • Further literature review supports this technique for similar rare vascular tumors.
