Background:

  • Colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) are a significant clinical challenge.
  • Microwave ablation (MWA) offers a potentially curative treatment option for CRLM.
  • Further understanding of factors influencing long-term local tumor control with MWA is needed.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To prospectively collect real-world data on MWA for CRLM.
  • To evaluate technical aspects and clinical outcomes of MWA in CRLM treatment.
  • To identify predictors of long-term local tumor control in CRLM patients undergoing MWA.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective, multicentre observational study (CIEMAR Registry).
  • Inclusion of adult patients with up to 9 treatment-naïve CRLM (≤3 cm).
  • Data collection at baseline, 3-month intervals up to 12 months, then 6-month intervals; primary outcome: local tumor control.

Main Results:

  • 500 patients enrolled between September 2019 and December 2022.
  • Over 976 tumors treated within the study period.
  • Data collection ongoing to assess primary and secondary outcomes.
