Abstract:
The progress of the initial group of one hundred clients was monitored following referral to a joint-funded assessment unit for "confused" elderly people. Data was collected on allocation and subsequent usage of a range of services available within the new system; comparisons with the prior establishment of specialist service systems for elderly persons is reviewed in the context of its probable impact upon both clients and the local neighbourhood. The social policies of integration, segregation and congregation are briefly discussed with respect to the data.
