[A surgical significant variation in the anatomy of N. thoracius longus]

The N. thoracicus longus is generally believed to be tightly invested in the fascia of the M. serratus lateralis. But its upper part is in fact only loosely attached. In this extreme case, the upper part of the nerve passed through the axillary space completely separated from the fascia.
