Cemento-ossifying fibroma, a benign jaw tumor, can develop from periodontal ligament cells. This case report details the successful surgical management of a cemento-ossifying fibroma in the posterior maxilla.

- Cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF) is a benign fibro-osseous neoplasm originating from the periodontal ligament.
- It has the capacity to differentiate into cementum and bone.
- COFs typically present as painless, slow-growing masses attached to gingival tissues.
Observation:
- A case of cemento-ossifying fibroma (epulis variant) is presented in a 52-year-old female.
- The lesion was located in the posterior maxilla, attached to the interdental gingiva between teeth 26 and 27 buccally.
- The tumor presented as a smooth, exophytic growth.
Findings:
- Surgical excision of the lesion was performed under general anesthesia.
- Extraction of the involved teeth (26 and 27) and curettage of the tumor bed were necessary.
- A palatal obturator was utilized post-operatively.
Implications:
- This case highlights the successful surgical management of a cemento-ossifying fibroma in the posterior maxilla.
- Complete excision and appropriate post-operative care led to satisfactory healing without recurrence at six months.
- This approach ensures favorable outcomes for benign fibro-osseous lesions of the jaw.
