Sleep parameters in patients with chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis: a case-control study

Patients with chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (cHP) experience worse sleep quality and more nocturnal hypoxemia than healthy individuals. Sleep questionnaires are not reliable for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in cHP patients.

- cHP patients exhibited poorer sleep efficiency, longer sleep latency, and reduced respiratory disturbance index compared to controls.
- Patients with cHP had significantly lower nocturnal oxygen saturation (SpO2) and a higher percentage of sleep time below 90% SpO2.
- No significant differences in questionnaire scores were found between cHP patients with and without OSA.

- The prevalence of OSA in cHP patients is high but not significantly different from controls.
- cHP patients experience more nocturnal hypoxemia than individuals with normal spirometry.
- Sleep questionnaires lack sufficient accuracy to predict OSA in patients with cHP.
