Intravenous regional anesthesia or the Bier block technique is used to anesthetize a specific limb or extremity. It uses exsanguinated or blood-drained vessels to transport local anesthetics or LAs to the peripheral nerve trunks.     Sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia offers improved hemodynamic stability and faster recovery for pediatric lower limb fracture surgery patients. This method also reduces postoperative pain compared to Ketamine anesthesia.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the effects of sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia versus Ketamine anesthesia on hemodynamics in children undergoing lower limb fracture surgery.
    • To compare anesthetic quality, onset, recovery, and postoperative pain between the two anesthetic techniques.

    Main Methods:

    • A randomized controlled trial involving 187 pediatric patients undergoing lower limb fracture surgery.
    • Patients were divided into two groups: sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia (experimental) and Ketamine basic anesthesia (control).
    • Hemodynamic indices (SaO2, MAP, HR, SBP, DBP), anesthetic onset/recovery times, and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain scores were compared.

    Conclusions:

    • Sevoflurane inhalation anesthesia provides superior hemodynamic stability in pediatric lower limb fracture surgery.
    • It facilitates quicker anesthetic onset and recovery while effectively reducing postoperative pain.
    • Sevoflurane is a favorable anesthetic option for pediatric orthopedic lower extremity procedures.
